Sample 7: Heat transfer

The input file is "heat_tr.in", the superfile is "hbgc123d.htr".

This sample uses an equivalent geometrical setup as sample 5 ("Microbiological and chemical reactions coupled with transport") in the three-dimensional version (404 nodes, 100 elements). However, the unit of length in this example is m instead of dm. It demonstrates the simulation of heat transfer. There are no chemical components or reactions simulated.

The initial condition specifies a temperature of 298.3 K in the entire model domain. There is a variable boundary condition on the left boundary resulting in an inflow of water at 308.3 K. The model domain comprises three different materials. All have the same longitudinal (1 m) and transverse (1 dm) dispersivity, the same molecular diffusivity (1.0e-4 m2/h) and bulk density (1200 kg/m3). The difference between the materials is their specific heat: 1e+14 J/(kg K) in material 1 (25 elements at the right end of the model domain), 1e+13 J/(kg K) in material 2 (25 elements at the left end of the model domain), and 1e+15 J/(kg K) in material 3 (50 elements in the middle of the model domain).
